A domain name is the name that you choose for your website. It is what your customers type into the address bar of the internet which starts with "www".
Think of it as your internet address, where your business lives on the web. It is how your customers find you online. It doesn't have to be the same as your company name but it will be a lot easier for your customers if it is.
If you have not already chosen your domain name, here are some pointers to help you get started:
Most NZ based companies use ".co.nz" as this indicates that the business is based in NZ. Potential customers searching online may choose to look for sites within NZ (rather than worldwide) in order to find a locally based company.
If your business is targeting the global market, a ".com" name may be more relevent. And there is nothing to stop you having both if you prefer!
If you already have an established company name, then you would want to choose a name that is the same as, or as close as you can get to your existing company name. Your domain name should be easy to remember, easy to spell, easy to type, and the shorter the better.
Of course the most important factor is whether or not your company name is available as a domain name!
We can register your chosen domain name for you as part of the web design process. We use multiple vendors depending on the domain name required so the cost will vary. Please contact us for more information.
Alternatively, if you wish to arrange your domain name yourself, there are a number of businesses in NZ which provide this service. Please refer to the Domain Name Commission website for a list of vendors.
Once you have your name, you need to decide what type of website is best for your business.
